.
ABOVE: Cover page of one of the books of Luis Carandell, most successful: Celtiberia Show. I was about ten years old when I saw it for the first time; They was just had surgery for appendicitis my brother (Mario) and while he was convalescing in the hospital; someone gave him a copy. The poor Mario could not laugh, because the scar is opened. Nevertheless, he kept releasing laughter and kept reading it and review; commenting on all the genius he saw there. Such was my curiosity, that when my brother fell asleep, I opened the book and obviously I began to laughing alone. Suddenly the patient woke up to told me that this was a book of older. It was then; that I wanted to check it entirely and staying clouded by the world Carandell., which pledged one Celtiberian and genial Spain.
.
.
ABOVE: One of the last works of Carandell: The most beautiful villages of Spain (published in 2002, the year he died). Was this author, a tireless traveler who toured all Spain; as a true lover of our culture, the spanish history and their art. For once, the scholars and educated people going from one place to another, in order to cultivate, aggrandizement and collecting the traditions or customs of each site. But mostly they traveled for love of art and history, which can only be learned in this way: Dedicating thousands of hours reading and doing thousands of kilometers a year; backpacking, watching every corner of the world. Only in this way, you grow intellectually and culturally progresses; when you see (suddenly) how in the lost corner of Spain, in one little village that nobody imagines. Where nobody believes it... . A missing monument, a monastery fallen almost ruined palace or a stranger mehalith appears. All this, of an elegance and majesty, infinite. This being the time when one fails to understand the way that some countries abandon to their fate the most precious assets, caring instead of nonsense. Anxious to maintain a museum of motorcycle in a village inhabited, only with old people; where buildings with hundreds of years will come down. It is one of the truths of Spain; where Gothic and Romanesque churches fall apart, while are worry to give the money designate to culture, spending it for discodances and summer dance parties (which is fun and gets votes).
.
.
ON THIS PARAGRAPH: The town of Atienza, where Luis Carandell had from 1970 until he died, his "rest of the warrior". A house that enjoyed weekends, surrounded by his friends of the town and personalities who visited him, arrived from Madrid. As we were saying, it was around 1970 when I first heard the name of this journalist-lawyer and humanist. Seeing a copy of his "Celtiberia Show" that brought my brother when he operated. Wishing who gave it a good convalescence: -"Crying with laughter"-. As they spent on the first page and something that was fulfilled; as the newly operated could not stop reading it and every time I let out a laugh while crying, in pain as his wound open. This first encounter with Carandell marked me forever because I looked so brilliant his work, and his world; that since then (when I was still a child) I wanted to somehow be like him. Interested because the writer did and said; at home buying shortly after the second part of that "Celtiberia Show," which was called "Celtiberia bis".
.
.
ON THIS PARAGRAPH: Another image of Atienza and his rock castle, next to which even the colossal wall areas are preserved. As I wrote earlier, Luis Carandell was an unforgettable character; whose interventions from the Senate or Congress of Deputies (as journalist) made history. Therefore it is considered the best chronicler of the Chambers had, durign the spanish democracy; and their stories about what was happening in these, were full of intelligence, irony and culture. His broadcast voice that characterizes him; and with that sly smile, made her laugh at least sympathetic. Reflecting the extreme, and doing everybody think with the chronics (also the dumbest).
.
.
ABOVE: The house Carandell in Atienza, near the present museum (opened about fifteen years ago when the writer supported the cultural activities of those people who both wanted). We ended the previous paragraph saying that chronic broadcasting from the Parliament did think even, also the dumbest. But such was his group of commentators and his name: "The gathering of contemporary silly". Which met at Mondays in the famous Taberna del Alabardero, a few meters from the Teatro Real in Madrid; and whose great award was "piece of chalck", every years, for the "Contemporary silly". Award granted that for a whole year had released the greatest imaginable absurdities; giving what would please him so much. Since then, what of it was said: "He likes more, than a stupid love a chalck" (a phrase that probably born between teachers, was tired of the dumb class will spend the school material, painting silly things on backboards ).
.
.
ON THIS PARAGRAPH: Tile on the facade of his house in Atienza and where they remember the years in which the writer spent there seasons (from 1970 until 2002 when he died). We miss know that during the years when Carandell went through the villages of Spain, it was common on Japanese television images of Atienza and surroundings towns. It was mainly the towns of Sigüenza and Atienza or Pedraza (while villages very famous), who went out frequently during the eighties and early nineties in Japanese TV shows where emmited Spanish lessons (or tourism is promoted). This, because those who carried out these series were in some cases highly skilled, as Professor Hidehito Higashitani (Spanish language professor, Director of the University of Himeji). Personalities who not only loved our land; they contacted individuals of great cultural importance in Spain. As Carandell, who had been stationed in Tokyo three years (correspondent), who met Higashitani and many others who produced these programs. That being the case, it was normal that we saw in Japan weekly towns images as Atienza, Siguenza, Ayllón, Sepúlveda and Pedraza; especially in the hours that emitted lessons of our language. Sadly today, those same programs usually talk about football or sports; with  images of American or "Spanish league". Sometimes being presented by people with a strong accent from South America, who use ambiguous expressions and grammatical forms.
.
.
OVER THIS PARAGRAPH: Image where we see the members of the brotherhoods of Atienza, up to celebrate at the church, on a Sunday in May. It was one of the great illusions of the end of life of Carandell, to be named "big brother" of those brotherhoods of horse racing. Brotherhoods who take care of the churches on Sundays and May made the famous festival of horses of Atienza. Saving a medieval tradition, in which the nobles ran and competed with their horses, dedicating the contest to the parishes to which they belonged (in a similar way as they do in some cities of Italy). We thank the brothers, to give permission of these pictures.
.
,
OVER AND UNDER THIS PARAGRAPH: Up, a brotherhood passes the arc before heading to his church (one of the many "Cofradías" that are still in Atienza). For those who have not visited this beautiful villa, we recommend to go; it is one of the most interesting and beautiful villages in Spain. Those who already know, suggest them to return during the weekend of May, where the famous horse festival is held. Under: Another brotherhoods of the horses, gathered to hear Mass at the Church of the Trinity Museum (whom we thank enable us to spread the image).
.
.
UNDER THIS PARAGRAPH: Some of the buildings on the street where he lived Luis Carandell (one of them, the old locksmith). The writer was of Catalan origin, although their parents left to live in France at the beginning of the spanish Civil War, and when he had only ten years old (in 1939). Later, I return with them, to Burgos and Barcelona, but then came to Madrid to study law. Finally, after going to Catalonia where he had to do military service, he returned to the Spanish capital to develop its vocation, as a writer and journalist. Later, and being married to a Swiss underling, he was posted abroad for several years as a correspondent. Among them, three years in Tokyo, where he became interested in origami ("art" that made good use and better display, while talking on their shows). In the mid-seventies, set in Madrid and political chronicles begin to emphasize (especially in "Cuadernos para el diálogo"). Finally jump to fame as a parliamentary reporter, because of his wit and his enormous culture; attached everything with his sympathy. With the spirit of Carandell; a true artist of the word and imagination.
.
.
IMAGE BELOW: Again, close to where had his home the reporter. This drinking water and the streets we see, was walking the man who wrote nearly sixty books; mostly of travels. From the first to publish (of Iceland), until the last one edited ("The most beautiful villages in Spain", whose cover we gathered at the beginning). In all of them reflected on the idiosyncrasies of the people, and especially on our country problems and history. A strange nation that forgets its great monuments and its great men, while extolling those who try to separate (or sow hatred between them). A Spain, who has always loved those who tortured, and tortured those who love it. That is why left to die in bed (crowned king) Ferdinand VII; while allowed the great general "El Empecinado" was betrayed and imprisoned by the monarch. Who after assuring that he could return to his home, he puts the general in a wooden cage to carry (in Roa de Duero) and there children and elderly insulted and stoned him. All this in village that Juan Martin -El Empecinado- was released from the French years before; and where shortly, execute him (after humiliating).
.
.
IMAGES BELOW: : Two news of my little collection imitating "Carandell" that I began in childhood. At the top the headline of the first new is: THUG BITES A POLICE DOG. The other dictates: HE RECOGNIZES HIS MUGGER, FOR A BITE THAT GAVE (clarifying that the bite gave it the victim of mugging). After reading "Celtiberia Show" and "Celtiberia Bis"; those books that collected newspaper clippings and funny news in Spain. I decided to make my own collection of curiosities, taken from various newspapers; work that was done since I was ten years during long time. Something in my house they liked, because at least I read the papers completely, if only to find their oddities.
.
.
.
.

IMAGES, DOWN: Two more news from a huge collection that was doing for years, keeping the oddities published by the newspapers. In the two it is narrated that the hunter had been hunted by his own dog. Mentioning that of Honduras, the police had arrested the murderer dog waiting for what he would do with it, the family of the dead man. While in the second case, the problem was that the hunter tried to separate two dogs fighting, and at the moment, one other animal jumped on his gun and shot the owner. The news makes clear that the police do not see doubt in the testimony and the account, given by those who accompanied the deceased (all that I do not see very clear, unless the dogs also testify).

.
UNDER THESE: Speaking about dogs, one of the things that have changed on the cities of Spain, in recent decades; it is that there are no stray dogs. Always alone, wandering the sidewalks; they rose to see you and greet. His natural intelligence was of the famous "spanish chucho", and their survival instincts led them to run if you bent down, to tie the shoelaces (or to get something that had fallen to the ground). If what you did was pick up a stone to throw at him; childish habit to which these dogs were used, as nice as smart (as we see in this photo). Happy stray dogs wandering in bands with his boss and his "beautiful", to which all followed; smelling. In response to outsiders, as a public relations greeted us upon arrival to the town; knowing exactly who was going to deal with love (as nice as suspicious and as distant for hungry).
.
.
.
.
IMAGE BELOW: Another virtue of having read, and followed from child, Luis Carandell; is to look important details when you travel. As this happy female goat in a bar of Extremadura, chaired every meeting; smoking, with hat and glasses.
.
.
.
IMAGES BELOW: Something that also greatly changed everyday life, are cars. Well before there were vehicles on the streets like this that we see up beside me, and fortunately I was able to find a few years ago (as a relic, a or a classic). Also in street robberies he has changed the scene. I remember in Seville, when I was doing military service, more than three decades ago, it was common this scene below: All four wheels replaced by stones. Especially in some areas where senior officers warned us, that docked to the soldiers.
.

.
.
IMAGE BELOW: Expertise in the monastery of El Escorial; We see the maneuver force to make the bus to pass the entrance arch. And in some respects, things have not changed much
.
.
.
IMAGE ABOVE: Some of it there; Here we see what happens when one goes very fast through the villages and has not screwed the cap oil well.
.
.
UNDER THESE: Also, when one has lived the world of Carandell, will cartels looking at different places. Some being very curious, like this restaurant O RATO BICHO (the rat bug); but especially this meat shop called "BRAGUILLAS mmm" (small panties). "Small panties, hmmm!!!" (is the translation...maybe...).
.
.
.
IMAGES BELOW: Another classic is the names of streets (mainly in small towns) where it is common this poster we see above, with the name of the STREET of LIFE AND DEATH; or SONG OF THE MULETEER St.; or street of TASTE THE EGGS. A beautiful place to live and for sure, every time we give our address, all people ask us: -"Street to test what?"
.
.
.
.
.
UNDER THESE LINES: Must also mention the names of shops, among which there are motes (perhaps not very suitable in some cases) or family names. And with a library with this name. Who can already say that reading is boring ? -... Whitout translation...-.
.
.
.
.
IMAGE BELOW: Finally and in memory of these things so curious, as Luis Carandell liked; I bring to this page a "Baby Jesus" (which the poor are malnourished or have suffered premature aging). I really don´t know the craftsman this child has modeled; but gives so much pain (dirty and poorly done) that someone has decided to put candy near of him (surely, to see if the baby fat -a little-).
.
.
IMAGE BELOW: : One last image, taken near Atienza; where photographing the sunset, they were these lights wirh the sign of "SOS". Perhaps as a message from Luis Carandell (from heaven), warning the cultural deterioration that Spain has been suffering for some years; especially in the villages, who every day are more abandoned, without population.
